This remarkable voyage traces a path from Greenland’s dramatic fjords to the vibrant coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Along the way, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle, explore sacred Inuit homelands, and visit sites of Norse history and Arctic exploration. Guided by local knowledge and expert leaders, experience a mix of wilderness hiking, Zodiac excursions, and cultural encounters. Wildlife sightings may include whales, seabirds, and even polar bears, while the northern lights may grace the skies as you journey through one of the world’s most remote and culturally rich regions.

Trip Code: CNI

Your journey begins deep inside the Kangerlussuaq Fjord, known locally as Søndre Strømfjord, one of the longest fjord systems in the world at 190 kilometres. Towering mountains and ancient glaciers line your passage as you navigate this ice-carved corridor toward open sea. As you cruise beyond the fjord, cross the invisible boundary of the Arctic Circle, a moment to mark your place on the map and in the polar world. With clear skies, this far north is one of the best places to watch for the aurora borealis. Spend time on deck as the night sky dances with shifting light. At the head of the fjord, the small settlement of Kangerlussuaq hints at its unique past as a former US Air Force base, now a quiet launch point for Greenlandic expeditions. If you choose to take the optional charter flights the flight departs Toronto (Ontario) in the early morning so we suggest you book one night pre-trip accommodation to ensure you do not miss the flight.

Named Kangerlussuatsiaq “the rather big fjord” in Greenlandic, and known to Danish seafarers as Evighedsfjorden, or “the fjord of eternity,” this dramatic waterway earns its name with every icy turn. From the deck or aboard a nimble Zodiac, explore a landscape shaped over millennia. Sheer cliffs cradle cascading waterfalls. Glaciers calve into glassy waters. Seabirds wheel overhead, riding thermals above the fjord walls. Despite its polar surroundings, the waters here remain surprisingly temperate, warmed by the West Greenland Current, a rare window into a subarctic world in constant motion. This is Greenland at its most raw and spectacular where each moment is etched into memory by the silence, the scale, and the slow-moving ice.

Greenland’s capital bridges old and new. The old harbour region of town includes many buildings dating from the Danish colonial days. The modern downtown core includes shopping, cafes and restaurants, and public institutions with a European flair. The Greenland National Museum is one of Nuuk’s outstanding features; the world-famous Greenland mummies are housed here. The museum’s exhibits also offer in-depth information about colonial, Norse, and Inuit presence in Greenland, a must-see.

As we cross the Davis Strait toward the wild coastlines of Labrador, this journey becomes more than just a voyage through Arctic waters. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn and connect. In the very lands their ancestors have called home for generations, Inuit hosts offer a deeper perspective on life in the North. Through presentations, shared stories, and interactive experiences, including demonstrations of traditional games. You'll gain insight into a culture shaped by ice, resilience and deep respect for the land. Engage in workshops, view curated documentaries, or simply step out on deck where the sea’s story continues with whales, seabirds and shifting light on the horizon.

Meals:  B,L,D

Spend four unforgettable days exploring the remote and sacred landscape of Torngat Mountains National Park, a vast expanse of treeless tundra, towering fjords and rugged peaks, including some of the highest mountains east of the Rockies. Guided by Inuit from Nunatsiavut, you'll gain rare insight into this ancestral homeland. Hike ancient pathways, visit archaeological sites, and explore remote bays by Zodiac, where cultural memory and natural beauty converge. Inuit from both Nunavik and Nunatsiavut are not only your guides, they are co-stewards of this protected area. Torngat comes from the Inuttut word tongait, meaning “place of spirits”, a name that reflects the deep spiritual significance of the region. The presence of those who came before is still felt, carried in the land and shared through stories. Wildlife sightings may include polar bears, black bears and birds of prey. In autumn, the tundra transforms with brilliant displays of ochre, red and gold, a striking reminder of the living, breathing power of this extraordinary place.

Today we step ashore at Hebron, where the remains of an 1830s Moravian mission station overlook the coast, a powerful and solemn place for Inuit who once lived here. Visit the old church, where in 1959 residents were told they would be forcibly relocated. A commemorative plaque now marks this moment in history and reflects the formal apology issued by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2005. Led by Inuit guides, you’ll hear personal stories passed through generations, voices of resilience, belonging, and return. Many descendants continue to hunt and fish in the surrounding area, maintaining their connection to this deeply significant homeland. This is not just a historical stop, it is an opportunity to bear witness to living memory and reflect on a story that continues to shape the identity of the region.

Today we arrive in Nain, the most northerly permanent settlement in Labrador and the cultural and administrative heart of Nunatsiavut. Expect a warm welcome as we step ashore, often accompanied by the sound of a local brass band. Explore the historic Moravian church, a landmark of the community since the 18th century, and spend time at Illusuak, a striking cultural centre that showcases Inuit heritage through exhibits, storytelling, and design. This visit offers the opportunity to meet local artists and craftspeople, and to reflect on the deep cultural roots of this region. You’ll also notice a shift in the landscape, this is your first encounter with forested terrain since entering the Arctic, marking a subtle but significant transition on our journey south.

Meals:  B,L,D

As we continue south, the dramatic peaks of the North gradually give way to gentler terrain, rolling forested hills, protected inlets and a scatter of rocky islets across the Labrador Sea. These sheltered waters have long supported thriving Inuit communities, where traditions endure and connection to land and sea remains strong. This stretch of coastline offers a rich cultural tapestry, where Inuit heritage and settler histories blend, revealing stories of resilience, adaptation and deep respect for nature. Weather permitting, we’ll make expedition landings and explore by Zodiac. Your expert expedition team will guide you safely through coastal barrens, boreal forests, and rugged shorelines sharing their knowledge of the region’s ecology and cultural significance.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we explore L’Anse aux Meadows, the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of global significance. Wander through the reconstructed Viking habitation site and learn how this extraordinary discovery was made in 1960, guided by a close reading of the Norse sagas. The archaeological remains date back to around 1000 CE, offering a rare window into early transatlantic exploration. Visit the outstanding interpretation centre, where exhibits bring Viking history to life, and meet costumed interpreters in the recreated sod buildings, giving a sense of what daily life may have looked like here over a thousand years ago. A visit to L’Anse aux Meadows is a highlight for anyone interested in exploration history, archaeology, and the deep cultural layers of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we make landfall along Newfoundland’s northeast coast, a region known for its string of picturesque villages nestled against rugged, rocky shores. We’ll anchor in one of these character-rich communities, where a warm Newfoundland welcome awaits. Expect friendly locals, maritime traditions, and colourful heritage buildings that reflect the island’s enduring spirit. For photographers, this is a chance to capture the charm of classic wooden architecture, winding shoreline paths, and weather-worn boats moored in sheltered coves, scenes that speak to a slower, sea-bound way of life. This visit offers a quiet but meaningful insight into the culture and hospitality that define Newfoundland’s coastal communities.

Meals:  B,L,D

Your journey concludes with a memorable sail into St. John’s, the vibrant capital of Newfoundland and Labrador and often considered the oldest city in North America. As we approach through the world-famous Narrows, keep watch for historic Signal Hill standing sentinel over the harbour entrance. This natural gateway offers one of the most iconic arrivals in the North Atlantic. Have your camera ready as we pass the colourful houses of the Battery, perched dramatically along the cliffs and a favourite subject for photographers. After disembarking, say your farewells in this lively cultural hub, where history, music, and maritime spirit continue to shape daily life.
