The Rembrandt van Rijn is a traditional three-masted sailing schooner offering an intimate and adventurous way to explore the Arctic. Accommodating just 33 guests, the vessel combines the character of a classic sailing ship with the practical capabilities required for small-ship polar expeditions.
Originally built as a herring fishing vessel, she was converted into a passenger schooner in 1994 and extensively rebuilt and refurbished in 2011. Her relatively small size makes her particularly well suited to exploring Greenland's fjords and the remote coastlines of Svalbard, with spacious open decks providing excellent opportunities for wildlife watching and enjoying the surrounding scenery. Life aboard is relaxed and informal, with an emphasis on the destinations rather than onboard luxuries. When conditions allow, travelling under sail adds another dimension to the experience, while two Zodiacs provide access to remote shorelines and opportunities for closer wildlife encounters. With just two expedition guides and a small crew, the Rembrandt van Rijn offers a more personal style of Arctic exploration.
