Costa Rica & Panama Coastal Expedition

Upon arrival at Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, transfer to the marina to board the Safari Voyager. Settle into your cabin and meet your expedition team as you prepare for the journey ahead. Enjoy a welcome briefing and your first evening onboard as you set sail along Costa Rica’s Pacific coastline.

Begin your exploration in this remote corner of Costa Rica, where dry tropical forest meets the ocean. Choose from guided hikes through the national park, snorkelling in clear waters or kayaking along the rugged coastline. This region is rich in birdlife and marine species, offering an active and scenic introduction to the voyage.

Spend the day in Santa Elena Bay, a pristine marine environment known for its clear waters and quiet beaches. Enjoy snorkelling, kayaking or paddleboarding, or take time to relax and reflect in this peaceful setting.

Step ashore at Curú Wildlife Refuge, home to monkeys, deer and a wide variety of birdlife. Explore on guided walks through forest trails before continuing to nearby Isla Tortuga, where white-sand beaches and turquoise waters provide opportunities for swimming, snorkelling or simply relaxing by the shore.

Visit Isla San Lucas, once home to Costa Rica’s most notorious prison and now a national park. Tour preserved prison structures, hike forest trails, and kayak scenic coastlines. Later, stroll Puntarenas’ Paseo de los Turistas boardwalk, admire local landmarks, shop, and immerse yourself in coastal culture.

Discover the Osa Peninsula, widely regarded as one of the most biologically intense regions on Earth. Join guided rainforest hikes in search of wildlife, from monkeys and sloths to vibrant bird species, or explore coastal waters by kayak or paddleboard. Cruise into Golfo Dulce, one of the few tropical fjords in the world, surrounded by dense rainforest and calm waters. Paddle through mangrove-lined channels by kayak or skiff, keeping an eye out for dolphins, birdlife and other wildlife that thrive in this unique ecosystem.

Cross into Panama and explore the remote islands of Coiba National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its extraordinary marine biodiversity. Discover vibrant coral reefs, crystal-clear waters and secluded beaches while enjoying opportunities to snorkel, kayak or explore by zodiac.

Explore the remote wilderness of the Darién Gap, a vast roadless region of rainforest, wetlands and mountains linking Central and South America. Anchoring near Punta Alegre, spend the day discovering this wild and seldom-visited coastline by kayak, skiff and on guided walks ashore.

Journey by skiff through mangrove-lined waterways to visit an Emberá village in the heart of the Darién Gap. Learn about the traditions, culture and deep connection to the surrounding rainforest as the community shares stories, music and dance, offering an authentic insight into one of Panama's Indigenous peoples.

Explore Taboga Island, known as the "Island of the Flowers", where colourful streets, scenic walking trails and abundant birdlife await. Join a guided ridge walk for panoramic views across the Gulf of Panama or enjoy time exploring the island at your own pace. Later, transit the Panama Canal, one of the world's greatest engineering achievements, experiencing this remarkable waterway from the unique perspective of your small expedition ship.

Spend two days exploring the idyllic Guna Yala (San Blas Archipelago), a breathtaking chain of more than 350 coral islands fringed by white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.
